Day Four: Bergen, Moose, Whale, Reindeer, Elk
Today was a travel day...Jason and I once again had breakfast at the hotel and then packed up our things and went to the airport. Jason had to bring his stuff in a paper H&M bag because not all of our newly purchased things would fit in my backpack. While walking to the train station, we passed a statue of a woman who had a breast removed after breast cancer surgery, it seemed a fitting farewell photo of Oslo.
After walking to the Central Station and then taking the train back to the airport, we got through security and then I got an email...one of our bags was ready to be delivered (I'm not sure why only one bag...there were supposed to be two). Since we had already went through security and since the suitcase was oversized, I told them to deliver the bags to the Bergan hotel we were staying at. Jason wasn't happy, he wanted his suitcase (if it was his suitcase) right then and there, but that really wasn't an option, so we traveled to Bergan without our luggage.
After the 50 minute flight, we traveled by train to downtown Bergen. Bergen is a very different city than Oslo, where Oslo was filled with young hip people...Bergan is filled with families and teenagers...the vibe is completely different. Jason preferred Bergan, I prefer Oslo...Bergan is older than Oslo, and is a fishing/whaling town...when we arrived, we started towards our hotel, but then encountered an open air food market. We got moose burgers (everyone else was serving some type of seafood...shrimp, fish, crabs, lobster...). They were good, kind of like beef, but slightly not. After lunch, we went to the hotel. The town is very picturesque...more so than Oslo, but Jason noted that the women had bras on and there were no statues of naked people...just Vikings and such. The city is surrounded by mountains which had a mist around them...and it was sprinkling rain.
While checking in, I told the counter woman that we were expecting luggage and asked where to get some things we needed...she told us about Rema 1000...a grocery store next door, which she showed us by pointing to through the window.
The hotel room was smaller, but we had separate beds (in Oslo, we shared a king sized bed). We then went to get toiletries (the ones we had were thrown away due to airport security) and we looked for souvenirs for folks back at home. I, of course, was turned around and didn't see the grocery store...Jason thought it was funny that I have no sense of direction and led us to the Rema 1000...a very underwhelming store with a very limited selection...and no spray deodorant. We got our souvenirs and went to a mall that was a small tower...6 or 7 floors high... we stopped at a booth on the way back from going to the mall and tried sausages made from whale, reindeer and elk...I thought they all tasted pretty similar...I also bought some cloud berry jam.
(The poster to the left was just one of a ton of posters for this play that were all over the area.)
When we got back to the hotel, I went to the hotel restaurant and got two spoons and brought them to the room where Jason and I tried cloud berry jam...I liked it, Jason thought the seeds would get stuck in his braces...and didn't care for it as much. We soaked our clothes in the bathtub with some laundry detergent that we got with the toiletries and then went to dinner at a Turkish restaurant. We had kabobs and Naan bread. The rain had started to pick up (which you can see by how misty the mountains looked), so we went back to our room, where we rinsed and hung our cloths (the room had a closet with a fan, so we hung the clothes in the closet with the fan running, so our clothes would actually dry this time. Since we were in so early, I went to the store, got a couple of Coke Zeros and a pack of playing cards and the game Yahtzee (but in Norwegian and with 6 dice?). I came back to the room, Jason and I played a couple of games of Yahtzee (he won both games) and listened to music from my phone. It was after 10 PM at this point, so Jason got his shower and we ended our first day in Bergen.

Jason II's Version:
This day started with us waking up of course and then we got dressed and packed up our things and went down stairs for breakfast I got the same as yesterday except I added a chocolate thing. After breakfast we went back to the room to make sure we had all of our things and left. I had my stuff in a H&M bag because we still don't have our bags. We wondered around the airport for a bit and then found our gate. But get this, as we were in the airport they told us one bag is there but dad didn't want to get it for some reason but we got on the plane and flew to Bergen.
The cool thing about Oslo and Bergen is that Bergen is older and random built basically and Oslo was rebuilt in the later parts of history by the Denmark king so it's more organized. And Oslo has a Swedish feel to it compared to Bergen because back in the day Sweden controlled that area and Bergen was controlled by the Vikings with them look nothing alike at all.
We got onto a train and went past all of the outer areas of the city, got off it at it's last stop and walked around and dad found this restaurant that had moose burgers and we ate it, it didn't taste that different from regular meat. We checked into the hotel and put our things down and started to wonder around the town like we did in Oslo. He got some souvenirs and took pictures of the place. As we were walking back we got some whale jerky and cloudy berries. We went out for dinner at a kabob place and it was good. Came back and dad got a Yahtzee game and we played which I won both games and I took my shower and all of that stuff and now going to bed.
