Day One: Getting there was only the beginning...

JB: We left Cleveland on Friday, August 5 at 2:24 PM for a flight to Washington DC, then from Washington DC to Frankfort, then from Frankfort to Oslo. We arrived in Oslo around 4:30 PM on Saturday, August 6th.

Upon arriving in Oslo, we discovered that our bags had been left in Frankfort. The only things we had were the cloths we wore and the items in my carryon backpack. These item consisted of some charging cords, our passports, a large bag of peanut M&Ms, airplane pillows, travel guidebook of Norway and some earbuds, and of course, our cell phones. We waited for quite some time to file a baggage claim report and then headed to the train (after going to the wrong hotel) to go to the hotel in downtown Oslo, the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel.

After the train, we looked for a place to buy toiletries and clothes and discovered that the only places that were open were small stores that had a small selection of toiletries (I wanted spray deodorant, but they didn’t carry that anywhere in all of Norway). We got some deodorant and toothbrushes and such and then we went out and explored Oslo a bit before going to the hotel and checking in.

Once we checked in and were in our rooms Jason asked me "Can you smell me?"...I'm asked, “Is that you? Why didn't you put deodorant on?”...he said, “I did, but I probably should have gotten a shower before we left.”...lol...he smelled really bad. I told him to get a shower and he said “What about my clothes, they really stink?” I told him, “There isn’t anything we can do about the clothes right now; let’s just deal with one thing at a time.”

We needed to eat because we had not had a meal in over 12 hours, then we would look for clothes. The airline said they would reimburse me for the cost of getting toiletries and some clothes, so I figured we would get the stuff tonight and start fresh on Sunday. Jason mentioned that he was freaking out about his luggage, but he will try to have fun…which was why I was trying to keep things fun and light.

We went to the Den Glade Gris, a restaurant that was near the hotel that had a pig woman statue. I ordered the pork knuckle and Jason was thinking about getting the pulled pork, but I convinced him to get the schnitzel instead…getting him to try something new! Both of our meals were very good! Pork knuckle tasked like pork loin wrapped in bacon and Jason’s schnitzel was perfectly fried and also came with peas, which he didn’t eat.

We walked all around the town and noticed a few couples fighting…in English…one man told his lady friend, “You are young, so shut the fuck up!" and walked away from her...she started following him fast...and in heals...Jason said “Man, she is pretty fast in heals!”...lol… We ended up walking all over Oslo and took a bunch of photos. I walked us to one end of the city and Jason led us back to the hotel through the scariest parts of town (but also the quickest route back to the hotel)...Oslo is a pretty safe town, and no one bothered us on the way back. We ended the day with plans on getting clothes and continuing to explore the city of Oslo!

Jason II's Version:

JB2: Today had it's downs and more downs and being bored but it was still fun. Yesterday we thought we weren't going to make a main flight that we just made but the great thing for today is that our luggage is still in Germany so we might have to go the whole time without clothes and my money and anything I need for personal hygiene. But once we realized that they weren't even in Norway we left the airport and really wondered around for a minute then got onto a train to go to the hotel. We bought some things we needed like deodorant and toothbrushes before we went there and after we got to the hotel I took a shower and after went out and multiple men and women we're fighting that was cool. We wondered around until going to a restaurant that mainly had pork and we eat some fried pork that was called something weird…a pig foot or something like that. After that dad just wanted to walk in a straight line for some reason and it looked a big sketchy but nothing happened. My wish for tomorrow is we get our stuff so it won't be a shit show.
